Many people mistake cosmetic dentistry for teeth whitening. Teeth whitening is part of cosmetic dentistry, but there are many more aspects to it. At Amador Dentistry in Pompano Beach, we deal with clients who seek cosmetic dentistry all the time, and our dentists are experts at it.
While teeth whitening is a major part of cosmetic dentistry, at Amador Dentistry, we want people to know that more procedures might be involved. These include veneers, implants, bonding, and others. One client might only need bonding while another might need whitening with veneers. The use of procedures depends on each case.
Most people are only familiar with teeth whitening. It’s a simple and common procedure. You can even buy over-the-counter whitening products and use them at home. We don’t recommend doing this, though.
These products, when used in excess, can be harmful. It’s fine to whiten your teeth at home, but with guidance from a dentist. If you’re in a hurry and have an important event coming up, we can whiten your teeth in-office in a single session. This usually takes between 30 to 60 minutes.
Veneers are thin structures made of porcelain or resin. They’re stuck to the front aspect of teeth to improve appearance. They’re also durable and can handle chewing. We usually use veneers for front teeth only.
Bonding is the use of resin to fix teeth with broken or chipped parts. The resin is identical to the color of the rest of your teeth, so it doesn’t stand out when you smile. Bonding is usually very simple and doesn’t take time.
Inlays and onlays are procedures that are similar to fillings and crowns. They’re also used to fill defects in teeth. Additionally, they can provide protection and add to the structural integrity of teeth.
Cosmetic dentistry is a broad field that can include many dental procedures. Knowing which procedures to use for each patient is vital. It’s also just as important to know how to perform these procedures. At Amador Dentistry, our dentists are experts at both.
